Adventure World – Why it is still Perth’s favourite playground!
I have so many fond memories as a child spending our Summer Days with my family at Adventure World. Opening in 1982 as Western Australia’s only Theme & Water park, it is still as popular now as it was back then, and it’s not hard to see why. It is such a fantastic day out for the whole family – from young to old, there is something for everyone! Here is some of my familys favourite attractions!
For the Little Kids
Dragon Kingdom is the place to go if you are a young thrillseeker looking to have some fun! The area is decked out with fairy gardens, dragons and castles, and plenty of shaded areas for you to setup camp for the day. Some of my boys favourite attractions are:
Little Leaper
I got dragged onto this one with him until he was confident enough to go alone with his brother and sisters, (and I won’t lie, I hate rides but this was fun!). Going as high as 6metres in the air, the little ones will love the views from above!
The Barnacle
This ride reminds me of the old Bounty Revenge which was at the park when I was a child, just on a small scale. We went on this rocking and rolling pirate ship over and over, it was defnitley his favourite ride!
Yarlis Barrel Spin
Ok this is my idea of torture – anything that spins and makes me dizzy is a no go, but kids seem to love the feeling of vertigo!! Jay wasn’t overly happy that I kept holding the wheel to stop the spinning, so eventually he requested that I not come on with him so he can have more fun! haha – fine by me!
Dragon Express
Jay refused to go on this one but my eldest who is 12 went on this around 14 times! Big hit for even the bigger kids!
Kingdom Falls
This actually isn’t a hit for Jay, my four year old, as he has a fear of the large tipping buckets! For some reason he is terrified of them! Max on the other hand loves it, and will wait for the bucket to fill and run to get water dumped on his head and go down the slides!
There is also a series of slides which lead into small pools in the Kingdom Falls area which are great for toddlers and young children!
Bucaneer Battle
Known before as the Bumper Boats, these were always my favourite as a kid. Jay was a pro at driving these (unlike me who got stuck under the water fountain with my phone in my hand!) and he loved shooting the others with the water jet.
For the Bigger Kids and Mum’s and Dad’s!
I am in no way an adrenalin junkie. I like to stay within my comfort zone when it comes to rides and take no pleasure from feeling my stomach drop or my head spin. My kids on the other hand? LOVE IT! Some of their favourites?
Abyss
This was the first big scary rollercoaster the kids have been on, and they loved it. Not enough to go on over and over, but defnitley enjoyed the rush!
Goliath
None of my kids were brave enough for this one but my nephew gave it a go and absolutely loved it. Me? You couldn’t pay me to go on this one!! For the adrenalin junkies, this ride is for you.
Waterslides
The waterslides are always a hit with my two oldest. They could spend ALL day going on every single slide possible. The Rocky Mountain Rapids , Tunnel of Terror and the Tidal Wave speed slides were their favourite slides.
Lagoon Pool
This is where I spent most of the days with Jay. The days we have been recently were both over 38 degrees so cooling off in the large lagoon pool was defnitley required! The pool is very deep in areas so a must to watch the young ones here.
Kahuna Falls
Kahuna Falls is one of the most popular places in Adventure World. With various slides, water buckets, water guns and water fountains – it is a great spot for kids of all ages. There are also plenty of pool chairs around this area for Mum & Dad to relax while the kids wear themselves out!
FOOD & DRINK
We packed a picnic on our recent visits but treated the kids to some ice cream after from the Beach Shack. The cafe has a great menu with very cheap prices and gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options available. You can read the full menu here.
GENERAL INFO
For those who want to get the most out of their visit, the park has Fast Passes to skip the ques (some days they are very long!) for an extra $35 or $39 depending on the season. This would have been great the first time we went as it was SO busy!
There are also Season Passes available which we have and will defnitley make the most out of. These are perfect for those adventure lovers who live nearby or who will visit the park frequently over the season. You can read prices here.
We can’t recommend a visit to Adventure World with the family enough. We are normally there from opening time to almost close and the kids still haven’t had enough! And with the weekend forecast another scorcher, I know where we will be!
